Great Wall Institute: The Process of the Great Wall of Los Angeles

Research of the Decades

Research is a vital part of the development of the imagery for the Great Wall of LA. Our intent is to highlight moments of importance that shifted the social/cultural landscape of the US and California, giving more freedom and agency to communities of color. Our research process involves reviewing academic and public resources,  interviewing community and academic scholars, and identifying archival photographs that serve as reference material. Our research seeks to highlight the contributions, accomplishments, struggles, and beauty of historically marginalized communities.
